Real Wedding Edit: Lennie & Harrison
Lennie kindly answered all our burning questions about her and Harrison's incredible January wedding in Raglan, New Zealand. We're so happy to share this real wedding edit with you all (made more special by the fact that Lennie is a Clarence Street original)!
A very genuine thank you to Muse Photography for allowing us to use their beautiful photographs and Mike Braid for the perfect video. L&H – thank you so much for letting us a share a little slice of your special day.
Tell us about your wedding morning? We heard it started with a bang!
You could say that! The day started off with mum reversing her car off a wee ledge when she came to pick me up. While she was swearing away saying “This is the last thing we need!”, I skipped up the road and asked a bunch of shirtless concrete layers to help lift her car back to even ground. I was so excited about getting married, I just saw it as a bit of comedy. After buying them a box of thank-you beers, I headed to my aunty’s house to relax and get ready with my bridesmaids in our Clarence & Co. robes.
Your dress is gorgeous! What are you wearing?
A year before the wedding (I’m super organised, okay) I found ‘the dress’ – The Wyatt, at Rue De Seine but fell over when I saw the price tag. After some desperate googling, I found a sample of it for sale at Secret Lace Bridal in Kumeu. But, I actually spent a fortune getting it tailored, so there’s a lesson there. I wore nude Jeffrey Campbells gifted to me by Janelle (!) and a beautiful necklace and earring set mum got me from a jeweler in Nelson. I went commando so I could have a seamless look. Is that too much info?
What is your favourite moment from the ceremony?
I can’t pick a moment. The whole thing was surreal. The bagpipes, my dad walking me down the aisle, the bit where I snort-laughed into the microphone (very on brand for me), saying my vows, hearing Harrison’s vows and making out as husband and wife.
Were there any wedding traditions you really wanted to have in your day or leave behind?
I didn’t give a flying bouquet about the maid of honor thing. Both my bridesmaids are equally special to me so there were no titles beyond that. I didn’t wear a garter – I find it creepy (each to their own though!). I love that we honored family members that have passed. It was really hard that my granny and Harrison’s sister weren’t with us. But by saying their names, it felt like they were in the room.
What are the “little details” that you organised for the day? Were they worth it?
My bridesmaids and close friends cut hundreds of little hearts out of leaves and flowers for the confetti which seemed pretty extra at the time (11pm the night before), but when they were raining down around us at the ceremony, it felt worth it. We also got a polaroid camera last minute to sit with our guest book. Lots of great drunken photos!
Favourite local wedding vendors?
Firstly, Bridget from the White Wedding Club. People thought I was being too boujee when I said I’d booked a stylist but we literally couldn’t have pulled it off without her. She was so invested and made everything look just how I’d imagined. Krystel from Raglan Floral Co. was another wonder. Just look at the photos! She nailed the hanging floral arrangement. We used a lot of other Waikato based vendors too as we wanted to support local businesses.
Advice for Kiwi couples who want to make sure their wedding day reflects their personalities?
Do whatever! There aren’t any rules. The best thing you can do is think about what you want as a couple, not what you think other people might be impressed by. Just keep it about the love. It’s a promise, not a performance (but definitely make sure you dance).
